Battery System Engineer for Consumer Electronics

At Addionics, a fast growing startup, we are revolutionising battery technology. Our smart 3D cell design will allow a step-change in battery performance. By focusing on battery physics we can achieve higher energy density, lower charging time, and improved heat safety. We are a venture-backed startup based in London and Tel Aviv, at an exciting growth stage.

We are looking for a Consumer Electronics Battery System Engineer to join us in leading our battery technology and manufacturing development.  As an early member of the team, you will have significant influence over developing our Li-ion cells for consumer electronics. In this role, you will be expected to take full ownership and responsibility over all aspects of battery testing and production.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in batteries for wearables applications

  • Strong knowledge of battery standards and testing methods

  • Deep cell and pack design experience

  • Manufacturing and production experience (automation, process flow, QA tests)

  • Evaluation of li-ion batteries (energy density, cycle life etc)

  • Hands-on experience in performing cell teardowns and battery cell disassembly

  • Knowledge of electrochemical characterization

  • Statistical analysis of failure rates and times, data analysis, simulations and modelling using programming languages such as python and MATLAB.

Your day to day on the job:

  • Designing and performing experiments for evaluating battery cells

  • Analytical and physical characterization of li-ion batteries

  • Battery failure analysis

  • Collecting and interpreting cell test data using materials characterization and electrochemical techniques

  • Prepare and manage procedures, validate methods and equipment

  • Develop and implement protocols and failure replication testing

  • Develop electrochemical models to simulate capacity degradation of Li-ion batteries

  • Develop li-ion battery algorithms and data analysis to optimise performance of batteries.

  • Developing battery management system algorithms

  • Develop operating and safety procedures for testing batteries; perform hazard assessments

Education:

  • MS or higher degree in Chemical, Material, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Electrochemistry
