Battery Mechanical Testing Engineer / London
An exciting opportunity has become available for a qualified graduate to deliver the Knowledge Exchange Embed Partnership Plus (KEEP+) research project to develop a reliable and accurate measuring methodologies for the characterisation of porous and thin metal structures, and the creation of a database to be used as standard for new products that will drive growth of improved smart materials for batteries. This position is a 12-month fixed term, full-time contract. There is potential for the hosting company to recruit someone into the to continue the project.

This position forms part of the KEEP funded programme by the European Regional Development fund (ERDF). KEEP works with the business and the University. Main duties & responsibilities
You will support the research team in achieving the project milestones and particularly work with the company and academic teams to develop methodologies for the testing and evaluation of 3D metal structures. You will also contribute to the design and organisation of the research project, and ensure the design and implementation of new testing systems (or modification of existing ones) suitable for examination of this type of samples.
The role will also require you too contribute to academic peer reviewed papers and presentations and assist with collating and writing the final project reports and working papers, project administration and the dissemination of results and outputs arising from the project.
Skills and experience needed
You will have experience working as part of a research team in a Higher Education Institution or in industry and demonstrable research experience at undergraduate level (e.g final year project). You will also be expected to have knowledge of business functions through employment or study (e.g. industrial placement).
You must have knowledge of appropriate databases for the discipline and ability to conduct literature searches in the discipline using appropriate electronic resources. You must also have the ability to plan and manage own activities effectively and deal with sensitive material with strict confidentiality.
You will have good oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal and presentation skills in spoken and written English.
Qualifications required
You must hold a minimum of an Undergraduate Degree, or equivalent level 6 qualification, in Mechanical/Automotive/Aerospace Engineering or related subject. A higher qualification would be advantageous.
FTE: 1.0fte, working 37 hours per week
Duration of Contract: Fixed term contract for 12 months
Salary: £25,627 per annum
Location: University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, AL10 9AB and Addionics, Translation and Innovation Hub, Shepherds Bush, W12 0BZ, London. This role will be mostly based at Addionics premises.
